Microscope

The Smithsonian catalogs Microscope as microscope in its Science & Scientific Instruments records.

Giuseppi Campani (1635-1715) was one of the first opticians to make screw-barrel microscopes. One of these instruments signed “Giuseppe Campani in Roma” was acquired by Sir Frank Crisp, a wealthy English microscopist, and later sold to the Science Museum in London. This is a replica of that instrument. It is made of wood, and has a simple brass stand. It is marked “Made by R. L. Klinger, 1961.”
