The museum identifies this painting as oil on canvas and credits Rockwell Kent (American, 1882–1971).

The museum's collection notes: Located off the coast of Maine, Monhegan Island has long drawn artists attracted to its rugged headlands, brooding forests, and dramatic ocean vistas. Unlike most colleagues who visited during summer, Kent built a home and lived there year-round, working as a well digger, lobsterman, and carpenter from 1906–8. This boldly rendered winter scene was painted from his studio window.
